Tempo's $5M Seed To Empower The Design Engineering Movement
Today we’re excited to announce Tempo has raised $5M to build the best design tool for design engineers. We’re fortunate to have an awesome set of investors who are joining us on this journey: Golden Ventures, Y Combinator, Box Group, Webflow Ventures, Inovia, General Catalyst, Singularity Capital, Union Capital, 89 Christopher, Lenny Rachitsky, and many others.

Press Release

Things are changing

As AI advances, Design and Engineering are converging faster than ever, yet the tools we rely on haven’t kept up. Design tools remain disconnected from code - creating static, image-based mockups that quickly drift out of sync with production. Meanwhile, “vibe-coding tools” lack the depth, control, and precision that professional designers expect while struggling to integrate with production design systems.
What results is painful design hand-offs and a flood of AI slop that rarely makes it to production.

Collaborating on production codebases

We believe that cross-functional teams need to stop creating throwaway prototypes and start collaborating on production code.To truly accelerate the software development lifecycle designers and PMs need to start working directly with production design systems within production codebases. Only then can teams:
  • Eliminate painful hand-offs between design and engineering
  • Unlock engineers to focus on complex business logic and architecture rather than UI implementation
  • Dramatically increase the velocity and quality of what ships to production
That’s why we have spent months ensuring Tempo works seamlessly with production codebases of all sizes. Our most successful designers now design inside their company’s codebase, using the same production components engineers do.Tempo gives designers and engineers one shared environment where every pixel is real. No redlines. No exports. No hand-offs. Just a continuous, collaborative loop between design and engineering.

Continuing to design by hand

We believe code is becoming a key medium for designers — a new kind of paint for the web, our shared canvas. Yet there are no code-first design tools that offer the depth, fidelity, and precision that professional designers have come to expect. Prompting alone is simply not enough.
That’s why we’re building an infinite canvas with all the precision, layout control, component systems, advanced styling, and visual editing you’d expect from a world-class design tool. We’re also building features to help you break the constraints of code and explore freely - more on that soon.
Despite advancements in AI codegen we believe human designers must remain in the loop — designing by hand, shaping products with taste and intent, and collaborating on real code the same way they collaborate on designs. True design requires exploration, iteration, and control — the ability to adjust every curve and pixel by hand. This is the future we are building for.

Become a design engineer

We believe that every designer working on software products will become a design engineer and we are building the best tool to empower that shift. If designing and collaborating ontop of production code is something you’d like to explore more deeply please give our product a try and reach out to us with feedback.
We’re still in beta but releasing updates every day. Over 100,000 of you have built something with Tempo - and we can’t wait to see what you create next.
